This should do the trick

Kinja'd!!!

I ended up picking up a DeWalt High Torque impact. I spent way too much time in Home Depot comparing the three front runners: Mikita, Milwaukee, and Dewalt all in the greater than 1000 foot pound breakaway torque category. The Dewalt was the only one sold with a battery and charger together so it was an early front runner. I dawdled on just going for the Milwaukee but then it was out of stock! I ended up picking up this kit from Tractor Supply Co for $300 plus tax. Includes the 1/2 inch driver, 4Ah battery, and 20V charger. Home depot had the same box for $319 before tax so it was worth the 20 minute detour to the other store!

Would the Milwaukee be a better tool? Probably. But at $300 for the bare tool, it was looking at being closer to $500 for just the battery, tool, and charger separately. This should do more than fine at the job I have planned as well as any others that I come up with. Especially since both cars do not have rust so it’ll do. Ive got my 32mm deep impact, new axle, and I will get to work after some lunch (and waiting for the battery to charge).

Here enjoy some big waves around sunset from yesterday as well as a picture of the Subaru at its new ride height:

My wife gave me one of those for my birthday this year along with a 5ah battery . I already had the Dewalt charger so it made sense to stay Dewalt . Seems to be a pretty good unit so far.

Can’t go wrong with any of those three. I’d personally go with the Milwaukee but only because I already have other Milwaukee tools, so I have batteries and a charger.

I’ve wanted a bigger compressor to run an impact for a while now but these are getting so good I'll eventually pull the trigger and buy a cordless.

My bet is that the only real difference is the color. I am sure you will be more than happy with it and it sounds like you found one at a good price. Now I want more tools.

What do you think of Ryobi tools? Are they reliable?

Ive got a DeWalt drill but its an older 18V model so its not compatible. Otherwise I only have the Ryobi set. Thats why I would have gladly paid for Ryobi if they had something that would have competed. But yeah I guess now if I buy other stuff it will be one of those depending on use case.

I took a 60V hammer drill from the Marines when I left, it’s Milwaukee , the only one I’ve ever used. We used it to put bolts into rocks for antennas among other things. Well those are some relaxing waves to mess around on before going home I guess.

That should easily do the trick for axle nuts. I can do them with my 240 ft/lb impact after a few minutes of thinking it’s going to burn out and die.It should take relatively no time but I always have weird alignment issues getting the spline back in. I think I usually disconnect the sway bar link?

I sold my air compressor and bought a 12v Milwaukee inflator and a 1/2" impact and its so much nicer than a big ass loud compressor.

Nice!

I got my Milwaukee high-torque when HD was throwing 5AH batteries in with bare tool purchases, and I already had the charger for my other tools.  I think I spent $180 or so on it.

I got the Dewalt 20v stuff last Christmas to replace some pretty old 18v Crafts man stuff that had seen better days. More power and less weight is a pretty good combination.

As this test shows Milwaukee is the best, even though I really don’t see what is the purpose of cordless for such a tool. But I am in Yrop and you can find a sockets even for what qualifies for middle of nowhere here.

I’ve thought about getting something like this but with the pneumatic im pact I already have and the smaller light duty version, I seem to make due.

Questions, what’s going on at the button of the tool, where the battery inserts....is that a light or a bubble level or something else entirely?

I have three Ryobi tools, they are not as heavy built as my Milwaukees, but they have all been perfectly reliable and functional (all are One+ 18v and I have two 4-AH Li-ion One+ batteries). I have a cordless 4.5" angle grinder that I use a lot.  I t’s been a solid tool and I only think about going brushless to get more runtime, or maybe even corded, as most of the time I don’t really need a cordless angle grinder... I also have a cordless grass trimmer that I use less now that I bought a good gas trimmer, but it still surprises me with it’s actual utility. Last is a 1/2" SDS hammer drill, which I used heavily for concrete anchor installation when I first got, and now use occasionally to drill out hardened bolts with the carbide bits. The Milwaukee batteries are notably better and function reliably even in very cold weather, the Ryobi batteries have very reduced capacity in cold. The Ryobi tools do not feel as robust, but so far they keep working fine, and were comparatively inexpensive.

Definitely one of the best tools I own

Ryobi is budget Milwaukee. Same umbrella company, TTI. Also like all of the vacuums except Dyson and Shark

That one will do you just fine. As an owner of several tools from both Milwaukee and DeWalt, they are equals in my opinion.

This is my local spot (secret), by local I mean where I grew up, not here. I wish I had this spot here. You can jump off the cliff into the waves too, the only way out is to climb a rope up the face.

The biggest difference is the batteries. Makita has the best, AvE has tested them a few times I think they use Sony cells, the other big names use Samsung . I’ve never had one fail, I know the oldest ones I have don’t last as long but those are ten years old and I just keep them at home for little things .

EDITED:  Looks like there’s a store in Simi.  I go by there fairly often, but forgot Burbank closed so it’s either Simi or Santa Clarita I guess...

The purpose is that they 1/2" cordless high torque impacts have more power than an air powered tool and you don’t need to be connected to a noisy, large air compressor in order to use the tool. The ease of removing large bolts with one of these tools can't be underestimated.

That’s cool, I hate how the LED on my Makita is near the trigger and is obstructed by the bit/chuck.

Exactly. It would have cost me way more for a whole air compressor setup. And sure it could have other uses. But its just not worth the inconvenience when something this good can come out of a battery powered tool instead.

Yeah it seems like a decent light which I am sure will come in handy. The selector switch just chooses between 3 torque levels. This was useful for putting things back together as I just set it to 1 so that I wouldnt ugga dugga bolts to death.

I quite like my Ryobi. Its much lighter so its a good all purpose impact and I can easily put a 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 fitting on it rather than using adapters. Sure it doesnt have a ton of torque but its more or less a ratchet replacement for sure.

Yeah it was in Moorpark which was perfect since both Home Depot and the Napa I went to were nearby in Camarillo. Then I got to enjoy a ride down the 23 all the way to the beach. Was happy to have my Miata for that!

Ive got a DeWalt drill but its an older 18V model so its not comp atible.

Yo u can buy adapters for the 20V LiIon batteries. I bought a package of an adapter, two 20V LiIon batteries and a suitable charger.

I felt like a sith while weilding the thing. I felt that I had UNLIMITED POWER, that no bolts would stop me! With that much power comes responsibility though, I definitely had ideas of removing the wrong bolts to get my axle out.
